About Nanaimo, B.C.

Nanaimo is linked to Vancouver via the BC Ferry System and is the second largest city on Vancouver Island.  It is a harbour city famous as the “Bathtub Racing Capital of the World”, which was instigated by Mayor Frank J. Ney who regularly attended council dressed as a pirate.   He also was a leading figure in business during the 1960-1980 period, and was famous for “the full Nanaimo” referred to a certain style of dress associated with the male business community.  Nanaimo counselling in BC from Theravive is grounded in solid moral values.

 

In the early 1800’s Nanaimo was a trading post and when the Hudson’s Bay Company became aware of the presence of coal in the area, the company built the Nanaimo Bastion fort in 1853.   The first coal mine company established a steam railway.  The town became known for the export of coal to Puget Sound and San Francisco.  In 1887 a mine explosion killed 150 miners.  In the 1940’s lumber mills sprang up in the area replacing the mining industry.  Today, this area is a developing city with several different people groups.  The most popular religion here is Christian.  Counselling Nanaimo BC seeks to bring you and your loved ones to a place of positive change for growth and healing.  Minetown Days is an annual celebration to acknowledge the history of the area.
