White Rock is a seaside community with a eight kilometre sandy beach and a population just under 20,000.  It is located forty-five minutes south of Vancouver and only five minutes to the United States I5.  Due to its moderate climate this is a preferred retirement location.  The temperatures range from six to 23 degrees Celsius in winter and summer. The waterfront promenade is fully accessible to the disabled, elderly, and parents with strollers. In earlier times the granite boulder was kept white by shellfish eating birds, and in the 19th century sailors used it as a beacon.  Currently, the city parks department frequently paints the rock white since it has been a graffiti target in recent times.  In 1886 the Smith family who were the original homesteaders, subdivided their land and sold lots.  The most popular religion in this area is Christian.
