Coquitlam is located in the midst of many lakes, rivers, and second-growth forests.  With this beautiful landscape, the area is home to many sporting and recreational uses hiking, boating, kayaking, and canoeing.  While the area does not have any beaches, the Tri-Cities area which includes Port Coquitlam and Port Moody offers freshwater beaches at Buntzen Lake and Sasamat Lake.  There are also saltwater beaches at Belcarra and Port Moody.  The area houses a number of Provincial Parks offering residents a vast array of outdoor areas close to home.  The natural attractions here allow struggling individuals a chance to “get away” from it all and recuperate, a kind of peaceful therapy.

The city of Coquitlam was first inhabited by the Coast Salish people who came to the area in 1808.  By the late 1860’s the European settlers had found the area and began to inhabit the area as well.  Coquitlam became known as “the place in between” with a road that was built to service the ports of New Westminster and Port Moody.  This road provided easier access to the area and it formally became a municipality in 1891. There is a diverse population here, with mixed religious backgrounds. Christian marriage counselling Coquitlam, family therapy is a powerful and effective service that many couples and families here find meaningful in times of significant crisis.

The first major industry that developed here was logging.  Two young entrepreneurs opened a mill along the Fraser River and the area became home to loggers and their families   Over the course of two years, a number of workers came here  and in addition to expanding the mill, developed the first Francophone community in the area around Coquitlam.  Marriage Counselling here provides an opportunity for people to overcome issues and struggles they face in life.
