The Greater Vancouver region is the third-largest film and television production centre after New York and Los Angeles. Numerous high-profile shows have featured Tsawwassen, some of which have been: Shoot to Kill, DaVinci’s Inquest, The X-Files and Smallville. In 2002 ‘Insomnia’ had scenes in the lodge where Al Pacino was sleeping and today this location is home of Century Holdings, a real estate agency. Ducks, snow geese and trumpeter swans winter at the Migratory Reifel Bird Sanctuary which is one of Canada’s top bird-watching sites. The Sanctuary is situated in Delta near Ladner. Waterfowl habitats were created by construction of causeways and dykes with equipment and building materials that were barged in. The Reifel Farm was a successful producer of sugar beets.
In 1960 the first lease was granted to the British Columbia Waterfowl Society and later Ducks Unlimited Canada assisted with the water management of the habitats on the site and has continued to be a partner in the management of the area. Reifel. With the ownership change the farm site became the Alaksen National Wildlife Area and the balance of the area was designated the George C. Reifel Migratory Bird Sanctuary.
