The Greater Vancouver region is the third-largest film and television production centre after New York and Los Angeles.  Numerous high-profile shows have featured Tsawwassen, some of which have been:  Shoot to Kill, DaVinci’s Inquest, The X-Files and Smallville.  In 2002 ‘Insomnia’ had scenes in the lodge where Al Pacino was sleeping and today this location is home of Century Holdings, a real estate agency.  Ducks, snow geese and trumpeter swans winter at the Migratory Reifel Bird Sanctuary which is one of Canada’s top bird-watching sites.  The Sanctuary is situated in Delta near Ladner.  Marriage counselling in Tsawwassen is a way to bring marriages on the brink back together.   In 1927 George Reifel bought property which he created into a recreational family retreat in this location.  Waterfowl habitats were created by construction of causeways and dykes with equipment and building materials that were barged in. The Reifel Farm was a successful producer of sugar beets. 

 

In 1960 the first lease was granted to the British Columbia Waterfowl Society and later Ducks Unlimited Canada assisted with the water management of the habitats on the site and has continued to be a partner in the management of the area.  Christian marriage counselling Tsawwassen, is also available for those who desire spiritual therapy.   The government of British Columbia supplemented this endeavour and established a game reserve on the adjacent land.  With recognition of the real estate value and wildlife habitat values of the Reifel homestead, the family managed a land sale and donation to the federal government with the condition that the entire area would be conserved for the primary benefit of waterfowl and continue to bear the name of George C. Reifel.  With the ownership change the farm site became the Alaksen National Wildlife Area and the balance of the area was designated the George C. Reifel Migratory Bird Sanctuary.
