Ladera Ranch

Ladera Ranch has several master planned communities. They are divided into nine villages. Five of those have themed clubhouses for that particular style.1 It has a private water park and skate park for residents only. The communities are dotted with round about and quaint side streets. Ladera Beach has many trails and is popular for hiking.

Mental Health in Ladera Ranch

Ladera Ranchs 22,980 residents are a diverse community with 12.8 percent of its citizens being of Hispanic origin.2 For many in the Hispanic community, suicide among adolescent girls is a growing concern. In 2011, overall rates for suicide within the Hispanic community were significantly lower than for non-Hispanics. However, national suicide rates for Hispanic girls in grades 9-12 was more than 70% higher than for Caucasian girls in the same age group.3 With such alarming suicide statistics among adolescent girls, there is a clear need for suicide crisis help in Ladera Ranch, California.

Didi Hirsch Mental Health Services is one of the organizations offering suicide prevention and counseling for Orange County residents, including those from Ladera Ranch. The group provides mental health and substance abuse services regardless of the client's ability to pay. Crisis intervention, stabilization, counseling, youth-at-risk, and residential treatment are among the programs they offer to their clients.4 More importantly, Didi Hirsch offers a 24-hour suicide crisis line that can be reached toll free at 877-727-4747. For general non-emergency information about their services, please call 310-390-8896. Volunteers for the hotline are much needed and appreciated.

Current Initiatives

In 2004, voters in California passed the Mental Health Services Act to provide statewide prevention and early intervention services for Californians who experience mental illness, including suicidal ideation.5 The program focuses on reducing stigma and discrimination toward those with mental illness, suicide prevention, and student mental health. Didi Hirsch, an organization with 11 locations serving residents in Los Angeles and Orange County, is among the nine program partners for suicide prevention.
