We want connection- a space to be vulnerable and truly seen. But emotional intimacy is risky, and that scares us, especially with a difficult history! Instead of being vulnerable, we build up walls to protect us. Let's break down the walls and build a loving connection.

Hermosa Beach, California, is one of the best places in the world to raise a family. Not only is the weather fantastic, and the beach always nearby, but there's plenty for children and teens to do here. If your youngsters have an interest in sports, fathers can introduce them to a wide variety of fun activities. The city maintains roller hockey, tennis, beach volleyball, basketball, lawn bowling, and skateboarding facilities...a little something for kids of all levels and types of athletic abilities. And don't forget the endless hours of fun in the sun. Even in the winter time, temperatures rarely drop below 50, and the beaches are a popular attraction year-round. Teenagers and even younger children can try their hand at surfing. And as if the day to day lifestyle here weren't enough, families are treated to many events throughout the year, such as Shakespeare by the Sea, June through August, and Fiesta Hermosa, the arts and crafts festival taking place every Labor and Memorial Day weekend.1 And there's more to Hermosa Beach than the beaches. Your family will absolutely have a blast at the eight parks maintained by the city, with facilities ranging from a skate park to kids' playgrounds, to walking areas. So, if your family likes to soak up the sun, you'd be hard pressed to find anyplace you'll like better than Hermosa Beach.

A fun family activity that is free of cost if the BARK program, which is run by volunteers to help encourage children to increase self confidence and their reading ability by reading to certified therapy dogs. Sometimes students find it intimidating to read in front of classmates, but love to read to calm, non-judgmental dogs. For dates and times, please call The Hermosa Beach Library at 310-379-8475.5
