The economy in Irvine is anchored by a large number of corporations with headquarters in the city.  The city also benefits from a robust technology sector.  In-N-Out Burger, LA Fitness, Taco Bell, and Verizon Wireless are just a handful of the companies headquartered here.  Other companies have situated their North American headquarters here including Toshiba Corporation, and Kia and Mazda Motors.  Some of the largest employers in the city are the University of California, Irvine, Parker Aerospace, and Washington Mutual Bank.  The availability of jobs from all of these companies helps put the median household income at $85,624.

The city of Irvine offers a full spectrum of services.  Families interested in adopting a pet can visit the Irvine Animal Care Center.  The center maintains a website where available pets can be viewed prior to your visit.  The Child Care Coordination Office assists parents who need child care referrals and also offers a variety of meetings throughout the year such as support groups.  Classes for children, teens, and adults are available at the Fine Arts Center. 1 The Youth Services department exists to help the young people in the community.  One program is the Youth Employment Service (YES) that assists young people with all facets of job search and placement.  This service is free to residents between the ages of 16 and 25.

Marriage and Couples Mental Health in Irvine

Irvine has one of the lowest domestic abuse rates in American, but despite the safety in which couples live, divorce is an imminent reality for many. With a national marriage rate of 6.8 per 1,000 people and a divorce rate of 3.8 per 1,000, marriage counseling services are in higher demand.2 Orange County unfortunately has one of the highest divorce rates in the country. With a divorce rate slightly above 60%, that is 10% higher than the national divorce average. On average, 33 people in Orange County carry out divorce proceedings every day.3

A great option to help prevent the need for divorce is the Parent Education Classes and Support Groups  provided by the Irvine Famliy Resource Center. These groups run throughout the school year, which helps parents and caregivers to learn the positive discipline skills required at home for building capable children and healthy families. For more information, please call the IFRC Program Coordinator at 949-936-7502.4

Family Services and Assistance Programs

Therapy programs are also available for families. Parents can seek specialist teen counselors to help resolve issues their children may be having. The Mental Health Association (MHA) of Orange County strives to educate the population about mental health issues and prevention and solution techniques. Their Youth Violence Prevention Week creates awareness in the community about mental health issues amongst teenagers and school aged children. The MHA helps families deal with a variety of disorders and provides support to victims of abuse, depression, and several other forms of mental illness.

Anyone interested in learning more or becoming a member can reach the MHA at 845-342-2400.
