The Port of Hueneme is considered the hub for the Pacific Rim. It is also the only deep-water port that is between San Francisco and Long Beach, and the only military deep-water port between San Diego and the Puget Sound. The Navy and Oxnard Harbor District jointly operates the port, which ships and receives a multitude of goods such as automobiles, pineapples, onions, strawberries, and flowers. The naval air station at Point Mugu is south of Port Hueneme and makes up the Naval Base Ventura County.1 With the climate in Oxnard being a Mediterranean or subtropical climate, this makes for mild summers and winters. This also lends itself to perfect weather for enjoying the culture and arts in the area. For instance, the Carnegie Art Museum, which was founded by Andrew Carnegie in 1907, is a great place to visit.

Marriage and Couples Mental Health in Oxnard

Ventura County is a highly diverse, highly populated area. Hispanics comprise over 300,000 of the county's residents, and is the fastest growing group in the county. Over 16 percent of the county's residents do not speak English well, which can serve as a barrier to acquiring mental health and other essential services. Most county residents did not complete college, and nearly 16 percent are uninsured.2 Because of these factors, many residents who need mental health care do not get it.

Couples and families who do not have the means to provide healthy meals for themselves certainly cannot work on any mental health or chemical dependency issues that might be causing them distress. To help meet the hunger needs of Oxnard's residents, Food Share provides healthy meals and education to children, families and adults of all ages. Food Share's monthly mobile food market brings free, fresh food to poor families in the area. Outreach programs in the city's schools teach kids about healthy eating. Employment programs are available for adults who have a mental illness and have trouble finding work.
