Marriage and Couples Mental Health in Petaluma
Sonoma County couples experience far fewer incidents of domestic abuse than couples in other counties in the state. In fact, from 2006 to 2012, the number of reported cases dropped by nearly 50 percent.2 While that is welcome news, couples and families experience many other common family issues that cause stress in the relationship, including chemical dependency, homelessness, and job loss. Fortunately, the Sonoma County Department of Health Services offers a wide range of behavioral health programs to help couples and families of Petaluma and neighboring communities overcome mental illness-related issues. School-based services for emotionally disturbed children are offered to help ease the transition from residential treatment back into a school setting. Educational opportunities for parents of mentally ill children are also available. Crisis intervention services for those in an emergency situation are offered as well. In an emergency, call the county's 24-hour mental health crisis hotline at 800-746-8181.3
