Sherman Oaks is located in the San Fernando Valley, which is in the Los Angeles region. This area has been built up over the years, becoming very urbanized with many skyscrapers scattered throughout the area. Van Nuys and Encino are to the north and east of Sherman Oaks, respectively, making the city very accessible. The area was one of the first areas to have a lot of growth and development in the early 20th century. Today, Sherman Oaks is home to about 53,000 people.1 In 1927, Hazeltine Sherman purchased 1,000 acres and then subdivided the property, selling one-acre lots for $780 per lot. The economy in Sherman Oaks mostly consists of banks and brokerage houses, but also has the oldest agricultural cooperative, Sunkist Growers, located in the city. Sunkist Growers has been located there for around 30 years.
Marriage and Couples Mental Health in Sherman Oaks
Many individuals suffer from an eating disorder. However, 95 percent of people with anorexia or bulimia are children and young adults between the ages of 12 and 25. Anorexia is the third most common chronic illness among young girls. Eating disorders are almost as common in high schools as drug and alcohol abuse. Family influences are among the many risk factors for the development of an eating disorder.2 As a result, couples and family therapy and other family-based interventions are often necessary in order to help a family member overcome their eating disorder.

The Help Group is a non-profit organization providing dozens of services and support programs for children, adults, and families who need assistance in overcoming mental health or behavioral issues. In particular, the Help Group specializes in the treatment of childhood conditions such as ADHD, Autism spectrum disorders, learning disabilities, developmental delays, and emotional problems. The Help Group offers transitional programs for adolescents with special needs who are moving into young adulthood. After-school and weekend programs are also offered for children with special needs so they have a place to interact with other special needs children. Family-centered programs are also available, including a Wraparound program, which seeks to keep at-risk children in the home environment rather than placing them in institutions or other restrictive environments.
