West Hollywood is a lively city north of downtown Los Angeles bordered by some of the most desirable neighborhoods in Los Angeles. The Hollywood Hills, an affluent neighborhood where many celebrities live, borders the city to the north. To the west is Beverly Hills, and to the east is Hollywood. West Hollywood is a highly progressive city. In 2007 it became one of the first cities in the nation to adopt green building ordinances. The city is also highly LGBT friendly, and was the first city to recognize same-sex domestic partnerships in 1985.1

Resources for parents to improve their parenting skills are available at Pathways. Pathways' programs seek to enhance confidence in one's parenting skills, reduce the number of negative behaviors children display, and encourage positive behaviors children engage in. Classes provide educational support, but peer-to-peer support as well; parents are able to discuss strategies for parenting that have worked well for them. Homeless youth in the West Hollywood area are provided a safe place to stay and learn at Covenant House. Covenant House is a non-profit agency that serves over 10,000 children each year. Educational programs help kids develop tools they need to be self-sufficient. The shelter also offers career programs to help kids learn skills that will help them get a job. Family Services and Assistance Programs
To address the various needs of individuals, couples, and families in West Hollywood, the city maintains relationships with various service providers of mental health related issues. The community center at Plummer Park offers a number of programs overseen by the Jewish Family Service. Most programs provide targeted assistance to older adults and young people with disabilities. Resource coordination services as well as case management services are offered. Crisis intervention programs are available as well. Reflecting the ethnic makeup of the area, many services are offered in English as well as Russian.
