Parenting children is a rewarding endeavor, but it can be daunting if, for whatever reason, you're raising your children alone. Luckily, in Orlando there's a peer support group which meets to offer a helping hand, plan fun events and generally be there for one another, making this time easier and more rewarding. If your child has been diagnosed with Attention Deficit Disorder or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, you know that the challenges related to parenting and education can seem overwhelming. However, in Orlando, CHADD, a non-profit, hosts a local peer support group for families of children with this health challenge. It meets at Dream Lake Elementary School, 500 North Park Avenue in Apopka the second Tuesday of every month. Call 407-844-2777 for more information.3

Parenting a child going through a gender identity transition, or coming out as gay can be tough for you, and especially for your child. Being an LGBT parent can be hard, too. The Orlando Gay Parent Support Group meets to discuss issues around being an LGBT family member. For information, call 407-228-8272.4

Current Initiatives

Parents of faith may wish to home school their children, in order to ensure they receive an education in line with traditional values that prioritizes their religion. In Orlando, Amy's Christian Home School Network is a group of parents who come together to discuss the rewards and challenges of providing a Christian homeschooling environment for their children.
