There's plenty for your family to stay occupied with in Nampa, Idaho. Everyone can catch a movie together at one of several cinemas, including the Nampa Reel Theater, showing discount movies, affordable enough to bring the whole family. If you'd prefer a live show, take the kids to the Can-Act. Or if the great outdoors is more your speed, take an Owyhee Mountain tour. Let the teenagers and children get that excess energy out of their systems at the Rollerdrome, a staple of Nampa teen culture since the 1950s. In addition to the ever popular roller skating, they will be thrilled with the selection of video games.1 When it's time for school, your kids will be well taken care of at such options as Skyview High, South Middle School, and Centennial Elementary. Whatever it is your family has been looking for, it's a good bet you'll find it in Nampa.

Mental Health in Nampa

Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) is dedicated to ending impaired driving and underage drinking. MADD provides many educational materials to help parents talk to their kids about alcohol, impairment and addiction, and making good choices. Facilitating open discussions about the dangers of drinking is the most effective way to help youth understand the negative impacts it can have on their lives. The organization also supports victims of drunk driving accidents through advocacy and legal advisement. For further details about MADD's efforts to reduce teen drinking in Nampa, call 208-853-3700.2

Immigrating to this country can open up many opportunities for economic, social and emotional growth. However, integrating into American society and culture can be a difficult process for some. To facilitate the process of becoming a part of the Nampa community, the Catholic Legal Immigration Network offers many support services that help individuals learn English, complete necessary immigration documents, and find adequate housing and employment. By helping new Americans meet these basic needs, the organization ensures that immigrants have more time to focus on settling their families, strengthening bonds, and meeting their goals. For additional information, call 208-466-9926.3

Current Education

The Nampa School District Number 131 provides specialized educational programs for students of exceptional academic abilities, as well as those students who have an intellectual, emotional, behavioral or physical impairment. The Gifted and Talented program provides enrichment in and out of the classroom for students that demonstrate above-average intellectual and creative aptitudes. Flexible pacing is offered so advanced students can work ahead and engage in supplementary learning activities. AP and college credit courses are offered at the high school level to provide further challenges for advanced students.4 For children who need support services to facilitate their learning, specialized instruction with individualized accommodations are provided at each grade level. Goals for each student's social and emotional growth, as well as their career readiness, are outlined as well. To find out more about the district's programs, call 208-468-4600.5
