Current Initiatives

The Greater Kansas City Mental Health Coalition has launched an initiative to combat the occurrence of mental health stigma. The coalition is a collaboration of public and private agencies from Kansas and Missouri communities in the Kansas City metro area. The primary purpose of the coalition is to educate the community about mental health issues, from depression and personality disorders to Alzheimer's disease and schizophrenia. Informing the public about these disorders helps develop an understanding of behavioral health conditions. The more knowledge the public has, the less likely they are to engage in thoughts and actions that stigmatize the mentally ill.5
