The life skills that children learn as part of the mentoring programs provided by Winning Futures enable them to grow into healthy, happy adults that can take on any of life's challenges. Children learn how to set academic goals to prepare themselves for post-secondary education. Mentors also work with kids to develop a strong self-concept and effective coping strategies to appropriately manage one's emotions. The St. Joseph Family Support Program provides financial assistance to families who's head-of-household has passed away. After losing their main source of income, families can face additional hardships such as financial instability, loss of home, or not enough food and other basic essentials. Also available is assistance with medical and mental health care services, which families would not otherwise be able to afford. By providing funding to pay for these programs, St. Joseph's ensures families get the care they need in times of crisis.5
