Marriage and Family Mental Health in Durham

The Strong Fathers program offered by the Center for Child and Family Health provides fathers with a history violence with the tools and resources they need to be a positive and supportive member of the family. Men learn strategies for managing their emotions and relating to their loved ones in a safe and compassionate manner. The class also gives men an opportunity to learn positive parenting techniques and share ways that they have progressed as a good father. To inquire about this program, call 919-578-3237.2

Communities in Schools Durham is a comprehensive support program for school-aged children that aims to empower children to stay in school. The Graduation Coach program provides social supports for students who are at-risk of dropping out due to family dysfunction, financial needs, emotional distress, and other significant life issues. Interventions tailored to the specific needs of each student are employed with the goal of keeping that student in school and on track to succeed after graduation. Skill building classes, mentorship programs, and support groups are just a few of the socio-emotional support services that are in place. The Interfaith Council for Social Service offers programming that supports families during times of crisis. If financial instability, homelessness, or domestic violence have occurred, the Interfaith Council will provide emergency services including financial assistance for rent, stipends for clothing, and access to their food pantry. Family members who rely on drug treatments to manage symptoms associated with mental illness can also receive medication assistance. Family Services and Assistance Programs

Families who need a helping hand in order to make ends meet or overcome obstacles due to life difficulties can take part in programs offered by the Durham County Department of Social Services. The department works to ensure that families have the basic necessities they need, such as food and clothing, through their social services programs. Financial needs can be met through their employment assistance programs, which offer trainings and job search assistance for the unemployed.
