My approach is to work collaboratively with clients using a holistic model of therapy which entails a blending of Eastern and Western modalities. For example, training in meditation, yoga, Tai Chi, proper exercise, a nutritious, science-based diet and maintaining proper sleep hygiene. Also, including talk therapy can then help to reveal core values and issues. Mindfulness training benefits clients in observing clearly thoughts and behaviours. Clients benefit greatly through the use of evidence based interventions by developing the skills needed to evaluate thought patterns and overcome destructive patterns.

Psychotherapy uses theories and models to serve as “roadmaps” for therapists. They help guide us through client problems, challenges and struggles, as well as determine the best treatment approach. There is no “one size fits all” approach or intervention. We are all unique. Through our own life experiences, psychotherapists gain knowledge and insight about their client’s struggles. They use different forms of psychotherapy to help individuals identify and bring their abilities and wisdom to their own awareness. This is an important part of the therapy “process”.

Psychotherapy is the process of discussing issues in a safe space with a trained and licensed professional who, using ethical and effective methods, can assist clients in understanding their thoughts, emotions and behaviours. As a Registered Psychotherapist, with a specialization in abuse and trauma, I am accustomed to hearing and expressing empathy regarding very difficult situations. If there are words you have never felt safe to speak outloud or stories you need to tell about your past and how it has influenced your present, I will listen without judgement. Working together we can determine how you may progress toward meaningful change.

My approach is individualized and client-centered. It is important to build a trusting therapeutic relationship. I believe this is done by providing a non-judgmental space to client to share their own story, so they feel respected and heard. Providing the client education, coping strategies, an opportunity to discard unworkable strategies, and realign with their values, they may feel more connected to their mind and body.

I work with professionals, therapists, executives, and healthcare specialists who have successful careers on paper but still feel unfulfilled in their personal and professional lives and their relationships. You may feel stressed, exhausted, or like you are just going through the motions of your life. Moreover, the pandemic may have played a role in driving you to re-evaluate your priorities. Anxiety, depression, or feelings of overwhelm may be at play and you may feel like you want a safe space to assess how you got to where you are today. I will work with you to explore your current relationships, family-of-origin issues, and support you in working through grief, loss, anxiety, or trauma.

Psychotherapy has been with humankind since our origins. However, about a century ago, psychologists tried to systematize and formalize psychotherapeutic interventions and, depending on their worldview and perspectives on human nature, they created various approaches that currently exceed 400, which can be confusing and misleading. A successful psychotherapy, regardless of the lenses and title, should acknowledge that every person has a unique mind and, as a result, a unique mental world. The therapist’s job is to help the client explore this world in a supportive environment. Schedule a free 15-minute consultation to see if we are a good fit.

Many people have ideas about how therapy should look or feel based on what they have seen in movies or tv, and some of those ideas can be scary or intimidating. Therapy should be a safe space where you feel comfortable sharing and exploring your thoughts, feelings, and experiences with someone who offers you empathy, authenticity, and acceptance. I believe that clients are the experts in their lives and will work collaboratively with you to explore the stories you hold about yourself and the world around you to find meaning, facilitate change, and highlight your strengths and successes. About Kingston, ON
Frontenac Islands, Westbrook, Glenburnie, Elginburg, Loyalist, Amherstview
Kingston, located on the eastern side of Lake Ontario, is the first capital of Canada. There are around 120,000 people in the city, with approximately 150,000 in the metropolitan area. The city is nicknamed the Limestone City because of the vast amount of buildings that have been built from local limestone. A counsellor Kingston ON provides objective direction and a fresh perspective when addressing long standing issues. Your therapist will help uncover the layers of hurt that have accumulated in your life, resolving issues through Kingston counseling with a clear direction forward. When the French originally settled in the area, they called it Katerokwi. There was a fort erected here in 1673, establishing Fort Cataraqui, which is a different pronunciation from the original name Katerokwi. The Fort was later renamed to Fort Frontenac. In 1758 the Fort was captured and destroyed by the British during the Seven Years’ War. The city became a place of refuge for fleeing refugees of the American Revolution, which the area later became the primary community of the southeastern portion of Upper Canada. It was towards the end of the 18th century that the population began to expand fairly rapidly.
Kingston was the base for the Great Lakes British Naval Fleet during the War of 1812. The British built Fort Henry to protect Rideau Canal. The towers that were built at the entrance still stand and are a popular tourist attraction. As recently as 2007, the Rideau Canal and the fortifications were assigned the UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Canal was actually not completed until 1832, but was the primary military and economic center for Upper Canada. Utilizing a Christian counsellor Kingston ON is a great way to redirect your life and find purposeful living. Through the process of therapy and depression counseling Kingston ON, you can find renewed strength to face the day and achieve your dreams. The city was finally incorporated as a city in 1846 and had the largest population in Upper Canada at the time. Before the Confederation, it was the first capital of the united Canadas from 1841 to 1844, hosting the first meeting of the parliament. The city was soon deemed too small with too few amenities to truly be considered a proper capital, so the capital was moved to Ottawa in 1857.
