Located just North of Toronto, Richmond Hill is the third largest town by population in Ontario’s York Region. The area maintains this natural beauty with an extensive park system that includes over 500 hectares of undeveloped nature available for recreational use by the residents. Here you and your family can enjoy a hike, walk, or picnic sure to be fun for children as well as teenagers. The city also uses these areas to provide concerts in the summer months for children and families as a way of promoting the importance of families spending time together. When your relationship together feels platonic and has lost its intimacy, find hope through effective Christian marriage counselling. Family therapists are able to sit down with both of you and put together the pieces, and rebuild a stronger, better relationship. With a city with such value on family bonding, there is bound to be multiple attractions available with this ideal in mind. Residents enjoy a winter carnival at the Mill Pond each year as part of the family focus.1 Here children and teens can engage in several events, including figure skating. In terms of education, Oak Grove Elementary and Chandler Middle are two of the several public school options available to families.
Marriage and Couples Mental Health in Richmond Hill
Richmond Hill is an affluent community that, as of the 2011 census, is home to 52,925 families.Of those families, 82.4 percent of households are married couples. Despite having incomes higher than the Canadian average, it takes more than stable finances to make a marriage work. A common problem in many marriages is learning to live with a person who suffers from mental illness such as a mood disorder. This poses significant challenges to a marriage, but therapy and support can help couples overcome those challenges.
The Mood Disorders Association of Ontario is one organization that helps families cope with caring for those with mood disorders and addiction. The comprehensive Family Matters Peer Support and Recovery Program provides clinical support for patients with mood disorders, educational resources for their families, recovery programs, peer support groups and outreach services.2 They also provide early intervention programs to help detect early symptoms of psychosis. Interested persons can contact the agency at 416-486-8046 for a detailed list of programs and services.3
Family Services and Assistance Programs
The Center for Addiction and Mental Health is an Ontario agency that services the entire province to help patients with a wide range of mental health issues. Among their programs is the Women's Mental Health Program available to women who suffer from mood disorders or those who have experienced trauma due to physical, sexual or emotional abuse and addiction. The agency requires a referral from a psychiatrist or other qualified provider. For more information, or to make a referral, call 416-535-8501.4
