Greater Sudbury, Ontario is a relatively large historical town known for its cultural diversity. The city features multiple family attractions such as Dynamic Earth, which is one of two science exhibition and home to Big Nickel, one of the town’s famous landmarks. Here children and teenagers alike will enjoy obtaining knowledge, while also having fun. The Greater Sudbury Heritage Museums are multiple sites within a single network providing a glimpse of life in the past within this area. With Christian marriage counselling, family therapists can identify destructive patterns of communication and habits to help renew growth in relationships.  Families with a creative gene may wish to visit the two art galleries within the city, which are both dedicated primarily to Canadian artists. Furthermore, Anglophone Sudbury Theatre Centre hosts a variety theatrical performances and shows throughout the year. Here families with children and teenagers, as well as couples seeking a date night, can sit back, relax, and enjoy the featured entertainment. Curtis Middle and Haynes Elementary are two of several public school options nearby.1

Marriage and Couples Mental Health in Sudbury

Sudbury offers its residents a choice of dozens schools, including public, Catholic, French language, Montessori and private schools as well as 13 libraries throughout the city. It's a great place for families with young children to live, and the city is home to children from all types of backgrounds, including divorced homes. In fact, Sudbury is home to more than 7,500 divorced individuals, most of whom have young children at home.2 Divorce can cause a number of issues for children and their parents: behavior problems, parenting disagreements, depression and anxiety, just to name a few.

Ontario has a number of social services in the child treatment sector to help families after a divorce, including the Child and Family Center (CFC) in Sudbury. The agency is funded in part by the Ministry of Children and Youth Services as well as charitable donations from local donors. CFC offers outreach programs, child crisis mobilization, intensive child and family intervention and mental health treatment for children under six years of age. To learn more about their programs for children and families, call 705-525-1008.3

Family Services and Assistance Programs

The Center of Excellence for Children and Youth Mental Health awarded local agencies grants to provide their citizens with valuable mental health services. CFC received three of those grants, two of which are for their School-Based Mental Health Program (SBMH). This means that, in addition to providing services to children and families in a private clinical setting, much-needed mental health services are also available to children in the schools. The goal of the program is to help children improve behavioral, emotional and academic functioning.4
