There are lots of great things to do in Memphis. For those who prefer outdoor activities, there are several popular destinations. One of the most frequented is the zoo, which holds 3000 animals on its 70 acres. This is a great treat for children, and very family friendly. Another popular area is the Mississippi River, which runs right through the city. This enormous river is the second largest in the United States and is a main thoroughfare for barges carrying grain and other cargo. There are many public parks on the banks of the Mississippi that provide beautiful locations for spending a day sunning on the river's beach or swimming in the gently flowing water. If you're the flower type, you should also consider visiting the Botanical Garden with its 23 specialty gardens.1
