One of the largest cities in the state, Plano, Texas is located in both Denton and Collin Counties with the vast majority of the town in Collin. Early settlers arrived in the region in the 1840’s and several nearby amenities such as a gristmill, store and sawmill attracted more. The name Plano means flat in Spanish and since it reflects the landscape of the area, the town’s name was chosen. When the railroad was completed, even more people arrived. The city was incorporated in 1873 and the population surpassed 500 the following year.
