The Parks and Recreation Department has an impressive array of options for residents of Corpus Christi, TX. Whether you want to swim, take a class, skateboard, or golf, there is something for everyone. With over 200 parks scattered throughout the city, it is easy to find a place to spend time with your family. The Corpus Christi Skate Park is free for residents and tourists alike and provides a safe place to skate (helmets are required) right along the shoreline. Next to the SkatePark is a large playground for younger visitors. If hiking or biking is more your speed, consider the Bay Trail. The path goes by some of the city’s most popular tourist attractions and also provides some great birdwatching. Some of the winged creatures you might spot include the brown pelican, piping plover and even the American peregrine falcon. Currently, the trail runs for 8 miles with plans for future expansion. If you would like to learn about the region indoors, the Corpus Christi Museum of Science and History is a must see.1 The museum has reproductions of the ships that were used in Christopher Columbus’ voyage to the New World—the Nina, the Pinta, and the Santa Maria.

They offer assistance to families that are in need, including supporting single moms, couples with their communication skills, survivors of sexual abuse, grandparents and teens. Texas Parent to Parent is a non-profit which operates statewide to give support to parents through their peer support services. There are services available which help parents of children with disabilities, as well as those who have chronic illnesses and special healthcare needs. Current Initiatives
The Corpus Christi Learning Center is a resource that was opened for the purpose of giving low-income older residents of Corpus Christi access to computers and computer education. The center is operated through the initiatives of the Corpus Christi Parks and Recreation Department, as well as the UPS Foundation Grant. It will serve to make senior citizens in the area more confident with the Internet and computer technology, in general, as well as lead to more job and career opportunities for these individuals.4 It is located in the Greenwood Senior Center, and their phone number is 361-826-1368.
The Good Samaritan Rescue Mission is located in Corpus Christi, and it is run by the homeless to serve the needs of the homeless. It began as a soup kitchen, and today it is a place where individuals can seek food and shelter. Homeless individuals can utilize the resources that are available through the Rescue Mission in order to get back on their feet and into a stable, independent living situation.5 It is located at 210 S Alameda St., 361-883-6195.
