San Antonio couples who have children can participate in free parenting classes offered by the YMCA of Greater San Antonio. The program, entitled Precious Minds New Connections, helps forge healthy bonds between parents and their children. Each class is 9-10 weeks long and provides parents with resources for effective behavior management and strategies to enhance family functioning. The organization takes a strengths-based approach to helping children stay in school and obtain employment. The Family Service Association of San Antonio has been providing families with resources to improve mental health for over 100 years. With many state-funded and grant-funded programs that target the needs of children, adolescents, and adults, the association helps build strong families that can withstand the stresses of mental illness and substance abuse. Individual, couples, and family counseling services are available, many of which are free of charge for clients who qualify. Educational and outreach programs on anger management, grief support, and domestic violence are also offered.
