San Antonio, Texas's second-largest city is also America's seventh largest city in terms of population. More than 20 million visitors come to San Antonio each year because of the huge variety of attractions that the city has to offer. The city is renowned for the beauty of its River Walk, a charming maze of walkways along the San Antonio River. San Antonio is also home to the Alamo fortress, the Six Flags Fiesta Texas theme parks, and the Marion Koogler McNay Museum of Modern Art.1 Because there are many large companies in San Antonio looking for young talent, many recent graduates and young couples are attracted to the city.

Marriage and Couples Mental Health in San Antonio

San Antonio couples who have children can participate in free parenting classes offered by the YMCA of Greater San Antonio. The program, entitled Precious Minds New Connections, helps forge healthy bonds between parents and their children. Each class is 9-10 weeks long and provides parents with resources for effective behavior management and strategies to enhance family functioning. San Antonio Youth is a non-profit organization providing many educational, recreational, and employment support services to the at-risk youth of the city. The organization takes a strengths-based approach to helping children stay in school and obtain employment. In a safe, fun, and positive environment, children develop the character, strengths, knowledge, and skills to achieve their potential and escape the cycle of poverty that afflicts a large number of their families. Family Services and Assistance Programs

The Family Service Association of San Antonio has been providing families with resources to improve mental health for over 100 years. With many state-funded and grant-funded programs that target the needs of children, adolescents, and adults, the association helps build strong families that can withstand the stresses of mental illness and substance abuse. Individual, couples, and family counseling services are available, many of which are free of charge for clients who qualify. Educational and outreach programs on anger management, grief support, and domestic violence are also offered.
