There are specific neighborhoods in The Woodlands township that are established like villages. These villages consist of Village of Alden Bridge, Village of Cochran's Crossing, Village of College Park, and Village of Creekside Park, to name a few. The Village of Grogan's Mill, was the first neighborhood to be established and is located near Town Center. It is aptly named after the Grogan-Cochrane Lumber Mill that stood where the village is today. Village of College Park was named for Montgomery College, which is a two-year community college in the city. The Village of Creekside Park is the last neighborhood to have been established with a planned residential community of over 5,500 homes, some multi-family residences, and almost 300 custom homes and estates in a gated community.1

Marriage and Couples Mental Health in The Woodlands

Parenting can be highly stressful, but even more so if one is a single parent. Those who are raising their children alone can face increased anxiety and depression, and in some cases also experience financial difficulties. To help support single parents, The Woodlands United Methodist Church offers a ministry that includes support groups, educational resources and social events, all of which aim to alleviate some of life's stresses and worry. For single mothers, The Labor of Love program provides assistance with home repairs and maintenance that keep the home safe for children. Advice about dating and blended families is also available.2 For single fathers, small group meetings offer a safe place to discuss common challenges, such as divorce proceedings, partial custody of children, and how to move on as part of a blended family.3 For further details about these groups, call 281-297-5932.

Seniors can face many obstacles the prevent them from living with good mental health. Physical ailments, loss of loved ones and loneliness can lead to significant issues such as depression. The Friendship Center offers many programs to help meet the emotional, social and physical needs of the city's elderly. Meals are provided so seniors can dine with friends and socialize. Homebound residents can take advantage of the Meals on Wheels program, which provides meals, as well as a short social visit to boost spirits. Seniors who need help acquiring social services can enroll in the case management program as well. For additional details, call 936.756.5828.4

Family Services and Assistance Programs

Being unable to pay the bills or provide quality housing for one's family, and worry about having enough food to eat are all common stressors that some families often have to deal with. Interfaith of The Woodlands offers a variety of services in order to take the pressure off parents who are unable to provide everything their children need. A payment assistance program provides emergency funds so families can pay rent and utilities and maintain residence in their home. Interfaith's food pantry offers canned goods and fresh fruits and produce to ensure each member of the family has enough to eat. School supplies are also provided to children so they can keep up with their studies. All these programs are delivered with the goal of helping families maintain their dignity and self-worth, while improving their ability to function and contribute to society.
