Andrea is a registered social worker with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers and she is a member of the Ontario Association of Social Workers. She has been working with individuals and families since 1995. She received her Honours BA (Spec. Psych) from York University and her Masters degree in Social Work from the University of Toronto. Andrea has trained in many models of psychotherapy and regularly draws upon Narrative, Cognitive Behavioural, Solution Focused and Psychodynamic perspectives.
Andrea’s approach in counselling is to ally with you, her client, in order to explore the issues troubling you, establish goals and then work together to help you feel more in control of your life. Andrea views the counselling process as a partnership with her clients, be they individual, couple, family or child. You can look to her for warm, compassionate, non-judgmental, solution oriented support -- drawn from her years of experience. Andrea’s approach is client centred and strengths based, which means no matter how low you may be feeling, she believes in you and your inherent strengths – which you will rediscover. As a resident of Markham, Andrea is experienced in working with individuals of diverse cultural backgrounds. She conducts telephone and email sessions with existing clients and will soon announce the launch of her online counselling services.
Andrea is the mother of two sons and lives in Unionville with her dog Tillie and a pond full of fish. She has published fourteen children’s books that model friendship and respect. Her characters can be seen on television in the Elliot Moose Series which still airs nationally. She is a respected public speaker, regularly found in schools throughout York Region and across Canada, where she inspires children to see themselves as empowered young creators.
