I am a Certified Professional Counsellor with a Master of Arts in Counselling degree and a Registered Nurse. I provide counselling services to individuals and couples ranging in age from teens to older adults.
In addition to individual counselling, I am passionate about helping couples with emotional intimacy, sexual issues, communication and conflict management as well as issues related to infidelity, sex addiction, separation and divorce. For couples counselling I have completed level 2 training in Gottman Method Couples Therapy as well as an externship in Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy, both of which are validated by research to be highly effective.
I specialize in the treatment of trauma and addictions. I have post-graduate training in sensorimotor psychotherapy for the treatment of physical and psychological trauma and abuse. I am also a Certified Sex Addiction Therapist (CSAT) and a Certified Multiple Addiction Therapist (CMAT). I provide counselling for those with addictions, their partners and families, as well as couples impacted by addiction.
I have completed training in treatment for those with sexually offensive behaviors and am a Certified Sex Offender Treatment Professional.
With extensive experience working with families and specialty certification in Maternal-Infant-Child Healthcare my interest area in counselling is also all issues related to childbearing ranging from infertility and pregnancy/infant loss, including abortion, to postpartum stress, anxiety and depression as well as attachment and parenting issues.
I believe that counselling is a collaborative effort where you bring your pain, needs, desire for healing as well as your strengths, potential, and resources for growth and I bring my knowledge, skills, and experience. The confidential and non-judgmental counselling relationship provides a way to work through problems, alleviate distress, improve healthy functioning, and help make meaning of experiences.
In counselling you can address current challenges as well as long-standing issues. You can expect me to accept you the way you are, share your pain, help you set goals that you desire, provide insight into root causes of your issues, teach new ways of dealing with issues, and facilitate change in the way you think, feel, and act.
In addition to my private counselling practice, I am a college instructor with a focus in mental health nursing.
I have been married for over twenty years to my husband Gary. We have an adult daughter and a teen-aged son.
As a counsellor, nurse and educator, I help people change, heal, and grow.
