Beginning therapy can be daunting. It is crucial to find a therapist with both experience and who feels like the right fit for you. Read on to get a bit of a sense of who I am and how I work.

I love what I do. I am honored to have worked with countless adult individuals, couples and adolescents in my practice, working with them to help bring healing and growth from a variety of life challenges and painful states, including (but not limited to) depression,  anxiety, emotional overwhelm, rageful thinking/behavior,, relational distress and trauma. I also work with many people who simply want to understand themselves on a deeper level, with all the gifts that such understanding can bring.

My Approach - The fundamental approach I take to therapy is "present-centered" and "somatic," that is, body and feeling oriented. For example, as we talk, I may guide you into an awareness of what you feel in both your body and the emotional realm. While this way of interacting may feel a bit unfamiliar at first, it is these two places -the body and emotions- that are the most direct gateways past the stories of the mind, and into the core of where both the pain and the healing in us reside. I find that people are often amazed at the amount of positive change that can occur in them when we work at this level.

EMDR - As an additional treatment option, I am trained in and offer EMDR (Eye Motion Desensitization & Reprocessing), a powerful and proven method of healing from trauma and overcoming traumatic memories. I offer EMDR both as an adjunctive service for my psychotherapy clients as well as a stand-alone treatment for those struggling with the aftermath of a traumatic event.

Couples Counseling - My focus as a couples counselor is both to help couples uncover and heal the root causes of their distress, and to guide them toward a new experience of safety and connection with each other. These are the building blocks of a loving, sustainable relationship. The approach to couples counseling I use, Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), is a highly effective and widely researched method that is renowned for achieving both these goals.

My Background- I am a licensed psychotherapist with offices in both San Francisco and Berkeley. My master's degree (2011) is from the California Institute of Integral Studies in San Francisco, where I also completed two years of graduate and post-graduate training at the Pierce Street Integral Counseling Center. Additionally, I was a staff therapist for several years working with adolescents and their families through Coyote Coast Youth & Family Counseling, in Orinda. My previous career as a study-abroad educator in South Asia, and my long background in both meditation practice and music inform my emotionally grounded and present-centered, creative approach to psychotherapy.
