Cheryl-Lynn Steernberg is the owner of North Okanagan Counselling Services. As well as individual and group counselling, she offers telecounselling for those clients in a small towns who have either no counsellors in the area or who have issues about confidentiality.
Ms. Steernberg has an MA in counselling psychology and is a Master Practitioner of Counselling Psychology. She is a member of the Canadian Professional Counsellors Association and the Canadian College of Counsellors and Psychotherapists. In addition to her successful private practice since 1993, she has created and taught a course entitled, “Critical Tools for Working with Youth,” which is being used in community schools up and down the Sunshine Coast of B.C. to train their youth workers. The manual is being published for use throughout North America.
Ms. Steernberg does extensive research into the current modalities of counselling used in the treatment of issues pertaining to her clients. The most current research is in the treatment of people with chronic pain, an issue that is reaching epidemic proportions in the United States and Canada, and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder which is extremely timely in our post 9/11 world. Her practice is general in nature and she welcomes individuals, couples experiencing marital difficulties, and families with various issues.
Ms. Steernberg is the mother of two adult children and has a six-year-old grandson. She brings her life experience, compassion and expertise to her practice.
She is past-president and Life Member of the Provincial Council of Women of B.C. and past-vice-president of the National Council of Women of Canada.
