Port St. Lucie is located on the eastern side of Florida with around 90,000 residents. The city has moderate temperatures throughout the year, with the summer time having average temperatures in the 90’s, and average winter temperatures in the 70’s. The city’s motto is “A City for all Ages”, which results in many different things occurring in and around the city for people of all ages.1 For instance, each month, the city sponsors an “After 5 LIVE” music event that is held at the Civic Center, and the best part is—it’s free. It is a great event for families, couples, or anyone to enjoy a relaxing atmosphere, complete with food, and an arts and crafts show. There are many other activities that occur in Port St. Lucie, such as a Saturday fishing clinic for kids, or free recreation classes for residents during the month of July, along with many other summer activities.

Mental Health in Port St Lucie

Losing a loved one can cause sadness, a sense of hopelessness, and despair; loss of life also comes with practical concerns and often increased responsibilities when it seems the grieving are least capable.2 The stress and sorrow of grief can even develop into clinical depression, without a support system. The Bereavement Support Group at St. Lucie Catholic Church meets weekly, allowing survivors the opportunity to learn coping strategies and share their experiences in a safe, caring environment.3 To find out current meeting times, contact St. Lucie Catholic Church at (772) 878-1215.

Bullying awareness has become an important element in education as the long term social and emotional implications and effects of bullying have become better understood. The St. Lucie Public School District takes bullying and harassment very seriously, and encourages students not only to report incidences of bullying but to actively and creatively participate in educating the public on the topic. Students at St. Lucie West Centennial High, for example, created a drama production entitled “No More Pain” and filmed it to share with the public.4 For more information about ongoing bullying prevention programs at St. Lucie Public Schools, call (772) 344-4400.
