 ABOUT DEBBIE
 

My name is Debbie Welsh,  Debbie has  been counselling for over 15 years. Debbie's experience has been predominantly in residential treatment, hospital, and community settings. Debbie has worked  as a mental health and substance use clinician in these settings and has worked in private practice with an eclectic counselling approach. In private practice Debbie works with individuals, couple's, youth, families and specializes in mental health (Anxiety/depression) and substance use, trauma, grief, life transitioning, work related issues, stress, communication, planning, social isolation/loneliness, abuse, and any life challenges as they show up in one's life. Debbie would like to support the client in becoming the best version of themselves and have a greater sense of self-fulfillment and mastery over their lives.   


   
COUPLE'S THERAPY 
 
 Debbie would like to assist you with deepening your relationship with your partner.

Would you like to learn how to break your current cycle and re-establish a deeper connection to your partner again? If so, Debbie provides emotionally focused couple's therapy  - a highly proven technique that is successful for helping clients to learn new cycles of being (dancing) together in relationship. 
 
 

MENTAL HEALTH AND SUBSTANCE USE

Debbie offers mental health and substance use healing through the use of motivational interviewing, trauma informed practice, solution focused and cognitive behavioral therapy. Debbie also teaches mindfulness strategies to help with managing anxiety, urges and cravings to help with the sobriety and relapse prevention process. 


 
TRAUMA THERAPY

Debbie recommends EMDR (eye movement, desensitization and reprocessing) as a highly successful therapeutic technique for treating trauma, complex trauma and PTSD.  EMDR also assists depression and anxiety.  EMDR  is the antibiotic treatment that assists with the brain with the healing and to help remove trauma from the nervous system allowing for re-balancing and deeper healing.

Debbie earned her Bachelor of Social Work Degree (BSW) in 2005 at the Okanagan University College in Kelowna, BC and her Master's Degree in Social Work in 2010 at the University of British Columbia in Kelowna, BC.
