Hi! My name is Debi Circle. I have been in private practice for over 13 years, after graduating with my MA in Counseling in 2001. I continued my training and education, getting certified in Gestalt from the Gestalt Institute of the Rockies in 2013. I have facilitated a women's group with WINGS, which is a group for Adult Survivors of Childhood Sexual Abuse. I have given workshops or groups on Shame, Anxiety and Estranged Relationships.  I continue to be a life long learner, attending seminars, webinars and reading, particularly in the areas of stress, trauma, grief and loss.
Most of us have experienced stress, trauma, and loss, in our personal life story and it has impacted us. However, we don't always recognize the profound impact on us, maybe thinking it isn't or shouldn't be a big deal. But it is a big deal. A lot of people have experienced trauma, but may not recognize it as such, particularly if  it wasn't some form of abuse. But trauma can be thought of as something that came too fast, too soon and too much so that it overwhelms us emotionally and in our nervous system. Unrecognized trauma doesn't get processed effectively.  We may compare ourselves to others who have gone through terrible things and think, "They are doing fine, so I should be able to go through this on my own or with no problem". What you don't know is what they are actually feeling, what life really is like for them, or how they got through to the otherside.
As we try to move forward and make life altering decisions, or transitions on unprocessed trauma, stress or loss we may have a hard time moving forward and as a result we may feel stuck, insecure, depressed, anxious or increased stressed. We may even listen to that negative voice that is critical that says we are not good enough. The benefits of counseling is you don't have to continue to experience your life in this way. Research shows, just the act of talking, being heard and feeling validated, can free up space to feel new emotions and have energy to make clearer decisions. There is hope, and I help people who struggle with this.
I have worked with both men and women, with a variety of ages, and I specialize with young adult women ages 25-40 years. I like to use an eclectic approach to counseling. Mostly, it is a time to come in for you to talk about what is bothering you in the here and now. We also talk about what has been part of your own unique story and how that impacts, complicates or has shaped the way you feel about yourself or others.  I am a careful listener, tapping in with compassion, empathy, validation and encouragement. I am able to provide insight, and psycho-education when appropriate. Our work together may use some body and breath work, experiential techniques, guided imagery or working on mindfulness. Counseling can have several layers to it. So you may come in and work on a very focused issue in your life and leave when it feels right, or one topic may lead to another area of concern and you may choose to continue to work on several things. It's your choice.
I am looking forward to meeting with you, to hear what's been bothering you and to understand how you want things to be different for you. If we turn out to be a good fit, meaning you feel comfortable with me and I feel confident in my skills, knowledge, and expertise for what you are working on, we can move forward. It's the first big step of change!
