Who I am
I have been following Jesus Christ since my early twenties.  Like my Christian clients, I remain a work inprogress.  Prayer, morning devotions, church attendance and fellowship keep me connected and pressing forward.  As a counselor, I have had the privilege of helping hurting Christian adults and couples from all walks of life, -- with various Christian traditions and backgrounds -- find healing, hope, courage, and a renewed relationship with God as they work through their challenges.  I have learned a lot from my Christian clients. I have learned that they face the same problems and challenges that everyone else faces here on planet Earth: depression, anxiety, grief, loss, divorce, anger, shame, and trauma.  What distinguishes them from persons without a relationship with God are their spiritual strengths.  They can make a huge difference toward getting better.  Everybody has them, whether they realize it or not.  Even when really depressed.  I have lived and worked in Twin Falls since 1992.  My wife and I have been married since 1978.  We have two children and five grandchildren that we love to spoil, and send home.
Free Guidebook Offer
Email or call to request my free 48-page guidebook, "HARD PRESSED, NOT CRUSHED. PERPLEXED, NOT IN DESPAIR: How Counseling Helps Hurting Christians Press On." The presence of being "hard pressed" or "perplexed" is inevitable. But being "crushed" or "in despair" by psychological pain need not be.  Rather, as St. Paul presents in 1 Corinthians 4:10, "The life of Christ" can thrive in the midst of our pain, transforming cracked clay pots in treasures.
I received my Masters degree in Social Work from Boise State University in 2007. I am a member of the American Christian Counseling Association, the American Counseling Association, EMDR Institute, and the Idaho Society of Individual Psychotherapists. I am certified in EMDR Therapy.  EMDR Therapy (Eye Movement, Densensitization & Reprocessing) is a highly effective treatment for trauma, and many other mental health problems.  Visit www.emdr.com for details, or call me to see if EMDR Therapy may be of help to you.
 Counseling in three dimensions
Adversity in our imperfect world negatively affects us in all three domains: mind body and soul.  So the Christian with a 'mental health issue' very often is experiencing emotional, physical and spiritual distress.  Coming to understand our mind/body/soul reactions to adversity --  rather than judging ourselves for them -- offers a healing pathway toward effectively addressing their pain that addresses the whole person.  I help Christians identify and utilize their mental, relational and spiritual resources for facilitating change.  Those resources can aid Christian clients in taking positive steps toward resolving their problems, help them stay connected with God, and others, through the change process, and develop lasting spiritual practices for maintaining spiritual health – what St. Paul referred to as pressing on.
 Two pronged approach to counseling

I offer practical coping skills for improving distressing thoughts, emotions and behaviors stemming from the problems in your life.  But I also go deeper.  I help clients identify what is driving those thoughts, emotions and behaviors, and help them resolve the underlying causes.  I do this in an atmosphere of encouragement and non-judgmental respect, while treating the whole person from a biblical perspective.
