Life can leave us feeling depressed, angry, anxious, or even lost. While all of us go through difficult times, anxiety and depression that never seem to end is a sign that something needs attention.
Like most people you may have tried many things on your own before reaching out to someone. Reaching out almost always brings up anxiety - Will he/she understand me? Can I trust this person with my thoughts, feelings? Will they really be able to help me? Everyone shares these questions in one form or another.
I am committed to helping individuals overcome the suffering associated with depression, anxiety, and psychological trauma in order to live better lives. The journey to living and feeling better is not necessarily easy, but with committment and courage from the both of us, it is possible. Together we can work to find a way out of the confusion.
Difficulties and Challenges I work with:
- Low confidence & self esteem
- social anxiety
- difficulties with intimacy
- fear of abandonment
- negative self-evaluations
- self-sabotaging behaviors
- personality disorders
- chronic depression
- chronic anxiety
- childhood/attachment trauma
- Anger and impulse control
About Jack Tawil
No stranger to life adversity, I find it incredibly rewarding to help others through through their own struggles. It is often said in my field, "you can only take someone as far as you have gone yourself". I find this to be great wisdom. The most effective therapists are usually those who have had the courage and honesty to work through their own struggles so to be of help to others.
As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW-C) (MD license # 13725), I have work in private practice, have served as a Clinical Affiliate at George Washington University Counseling Center, and have held various posts at outpatient mental health clinics in the DC/Baltimore Region. I currently serve on the Faculty of the Intenstive Short Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP) Program at the Washington School of Psychiatry in Washington DC.
I received a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from the University of Maryland, College Park. I hold a Master of Social Work Degree from Catholic University in Washington D.C. and a Master of Science Degree from Central Washington University in Washington State. I have completed eight years of post-graduate training in psychotherapy from the Washington School of Psychiatry.
