Jill has a Masters Degree in Counselling Psychology from the Adler School of Professional Psychology, a Masters Degree in Health Education from the University of Maryland, and a BA in Psychology from the University of Maryland. Jill is also a Certified Hypnotherapist.
In Maryland Jill worked as a personal trainer, aerobics instructor, corporate health and fitness program director and weight loss counsellor. At the University of Maryland she specialized in Stress Management Education. Through her education and experience Jill learned to see individuals as a whole, taking their physical, emotional and psychological viewpoints into account. " A person is more than the sum of their parts". She noticed that when clients were given the right tools, education, guidance and support they were able to flourish and make the changes needed to move foreward positively in their lives. She also noticed that these changes in one member of the family often initiated positive changes in other members of the family.
Working in the wellness industry Jill learned how to integrate education, coaching, support and encouragement to help her clients reach their goals. In Maryland Jill also had an opportunity to work with youth at risk. This sparked her interest in improving the counselling skills she had learned in University.
Upon moving to British Columbia Jill worked in Private Post Secondary Education, often called upon as a counsellor to students and teachers alike. Jill gained valuable experience working with individuals needing to improve their circumstances, retrain (often due to injury/disability) or to work towards their dreams. Jill learned how important similar support and encouragement she used in her wellness work was in this situation.
Eager to learn more about the psychological aspects of human behaviour Jill entered the Masters in Counselling Psychology program at the Adler School of Professional Psychology in Vancouver. Through her academic and clinical studies she was able to expand this "wholeness" approach and apply it to helping individuals gain wellness in their lives and remove the blocks holding them back. from living the life they want.
Jill looks at the balance an individual currently has in their life: relationships, work, friendships, family, hobbies, health/fitness and overall happiness to determine where life is out of balance. Through goal setting with clients Jill is able to map out a plan to help her clients get to where they want to go.
Jill has taken additional training in Bowen Family Systems Therapy at the North Shore Counselling Centre where she was an intern and gained important experience in individual, couple and family therapy. Jill has studied Satir Transformational Therapy with the Satir Centre of the Pacific, and Traumatic Incident Reduction.
Additionally Jill is a Certified Hypnotherapist. She has always used deep relaxation training stemming from her work in Stress Management at the University of Maryland. Very impressed by the results deep relaxation training has on an individual's physical and emotional well being Jill integrated deep relaxation training into her counselling practice very successfully.
When an equestrian accident left her anxious about riding Jill sought help from many sources only to find no relief. Eventually on holiday in Florida she met with a hypnotist who specializes in working with equestrians. After one session Jill noticed her anxiety had significantly reduced. Jill followed up on this work and studied hypnotherapy in several venues. She is now a certified hypnotherapist and is incredibly impressed with the results of this modality.
Jill discusses with her clients the modalities that she feels will be the most appropriate for their situation and their goals and together they come agree on a plan of action.
Jill has successfully worked with clients experiencing: anxiety/panic, fears/phobias, stress, anger, grief (people and pets), depression, sleep disorders, eating disorders, relationship challenges and pain from chronic conditions.
It is important to Jill that clients begin to feel relief right away. Generally issues are resolved within 4-6 sessions.
