Welcome!
My Philosopy
Feeling distressed, stuck, anxious? These are common feelings, at times, for all of us. Wishing for calm, hope, peace? Although we can't change events in our external world, we can manage the impact they have on us. Counselling is a process, anchored in hope and defined by positively directed and collaborative goals. My role as a counsellor is to guide, encourage and support you:
• Regain hope, believe in yourselves and your power to change internally;
• Lessen the impact of past traumatic and difficult events on the present and future;
• Unleash your inner resources and discover your inner wisdom;
• Examine issues from many perspectives and make informed choices; and
• Discover your sense of worth and accept your uniqueness and goodness.
Education
My formal education includes a M.S.W. from Wilfrid Laurier University, a B.Ed. from the University of Victoria and a Ph.D. in Theatre with an emphasis on Drama in Education from Brigham Young University. Over the years, I have taken many opportunities to take advanced clinical training in issues related to children, teens, parenting, couples and bereavement. I have completed Levels I and II in Satir Transformational Therapy and am now finishing up Level III Satir application courses.
For more than 25 years, I have had the pleasure of working with and/or for children, teens, young adults and families in recreation, government, education and therapy. Coupled with this work, I have had the honor to help those dying and bereaved both in professional and personal capacities.
Counselling Information
My client populations are: families, children, teens, young adults, couples, and women.
Counselling focuses on depression, anxiety/panic, loss/grief/bereavement, life transitions, parenting and helping children and teens cope better with issues such as anger and inappropriate behaviors. Work with couples centers on helping re-establish attachment connections by identifying and changing destructive "dances" to ones that are grounded in loving emotional safety and security.
I am a perceptive, compassionate, informed and dedicated counsellor who will work with you to more fully realize your potential, to resolve or better manage troublesome issues, and to move toward the future with hope and confidence.
My professional standards for myself are high, and I meet them by continuing to train and be supervised by an Approved Marriage and Family Supervisor.
Professional Affiliations
My professional memberships include: Satir Institute of the Pacific, BC Association of Social Workers and Association for Play Therapy.
I look forward to meeting and consulting with you.
