Hi there!
Seeing a therapist for the first time (or returning after a number of years or perhaps, after a bad experience) can be scary. I try my best to make our sessions feel more like a conversation, lessening the divide as much as I can without compromising boundaries, between therapist and client. After all, at the end of the day, regardless of what side of the couch we each sit on, we are both human.

Educationally, I have pursued a certificate in palliative care and an undergraduate degree in psychology from Lakehead University. I then completed a master of divinity (in counselling) from Heritage Seminary.  As research continues to evolve as well as being a life long learner, I continue to attend workshops and training courses in an effort to cultivate my craft. I am registered with the Ontario Association of Consultants, Counsellors, Psychometrists and Psychotherapists (OACCPP) and the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO).
I use a multitude of therapeutic approaches when working with clients, as therapy typically isn't a 'one shoe fits all' type of thing. Such approaches included: cognitive behavioural therapy, EMDR, dialectical behavioural therapy, solution focused therapy, and so on. As much as skills are taught and difficult issues discussed in session, I try to also incorporate humour.  My client base ranges in age, from adolescent to adult. My main area of practice is in the treatment of eating disorders, however do see clients who struggle with depression, anxiety, O.C.D., relationship issues, life changes, self-esteem/self-worth, self-harm and more.

I am a strong believer that “people just need to talk more”.  The sense of stigma around mental health issues, and asking for help, is something that needs to change, an attempt I fervently and actively attempt to do in both my private and professional life. Professionally, I sit as co-chair on the Waterloo-Wellington Eating Disorders Coalition that runs various events throughout the year (eatingdisorderscoalition.ca). On a personally front, I have written a three part graphic novel showing my journey with various mental health issues. 'wiTHIN' is meant to be a tool of encouragement and insight for parents, professionals and those personally struggling. Visit withincomic.com for more information and details. It's important for you to know, that whatever you are going through, you aren't the only one, nor do you need to go with it or through it alone.
