As a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) in private practice, I provide an eclectic style of therapy which allows me to provide a service that is designed to meet the unique needs of each client or couple.  A significant number of my clients are referred to me from their Employee Assistant Program (EAP) which challenges me to find an avenue to meet every relationship or emotional issue imaginable.
I have a belief in a holistic approach to therapy.  The human body is a very complex organism with many parts so intertwined that an instability in one part of the body will create or be the basis for instability in another part of the body.  What is put into the body has a direct correlation to behavior, emotion, and physical well-being.  So, I look at the whole person, not just the issue.
My whole-body, whole-environment view of each of my clients was piqued while pursuing my Bachelor of Arts Degree in Human Studies at Marylhurst University.  The concept was enhanced while achieving my Masters in Social Work (MSW) Degree from Portland State University where my eyes were opened to a whole systems approach to therapy.
To further the whole-body approach understanding, I spent two years with the Sharper Mind Centers training on how to most effectively provide a cognitive evaluation and training program.  A Cognitive Evaluation is designed to identify how the brain processes information which in turn affects thought and behavior processes.  This information is very useful in understanding academic and behavioral difficulties.
When thinking about all the different pieces that have an effect on our lives, I applaud the clients who pick up the phone to call for counseling.  Clients who seek individual, marriage, or couples counseling are very courageous.  It takes courage to look at your life and make the changes that will have a positive and lasting benefit.
