This crisis line is free and available to the general public 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
For those struggling with mental health issues related to gender roles and sexual orientation, there are several organizations available to help. The Trevor Project is one such organization. Founded in 1998, The Trevor Project is a leading provider of crisis intervention and suicide prevention services for those in the LGBT community.3 The organization offers free and safe opportunities to speak with trained counselors via phone, text, and Internet. If you or someone you know is suffering from poor mental health that has caused homelessness, Homeless Healthcare of Los Angeles4 is one of several organization within the Los Angeles County that can provide assistance. Current Initiatives
There are many programs within Los Angeles that work with populations affected by hardship. The Foster Youth Mental Health Initiative seeks to provide better services to those in the foster care system by coordinating efforts of the child welfare system, mental health providers, schools, and other stakeholders. The first step of the initiative is to bring local resources together to develop concrete steps in improving foster youth mental healthcare.5
