How Do I go about counseling?
I am the Owner and Director of Elevate Counseling Services, Inc. We are a 5 member clinical team that can help you and your family members 5 years old and up. We are strength based and solution focused counselors. That means that we are not just listening to problems, but listening for solutions. We are Holistic in our approach and look at physical, emotional, mental and spiritual concerns and help identify strengths to overcome deficits and "life" problems.
What happens in counseling?
The most important aspect of your relationship with your counselor is that you feel comfortable speaking with them. The session should feel like a productive conversation. You should experience a sense of calm and feel that your counselor is really hearing you, helping you work through the things that you want to talk about and that you are supported. The work of counseling actually happens in your life. You and your counselor will discuss issues that are important to you, but it is up to you, to take the conversation with you, into your world and decide for yourself what shifts you want to make, are ready to make and feel competent to make.  Your counselor will be there for you at your next appointment to discuss little victories along the way and continue to help you identify strengths, help you overcome limitations and build your arsenal of healthy living skills.

  •  RET - Rational Emotive Therapy    This means we look at emotions, how they influence thought and ultimately behavior.  We start the work at the emotional level before getting to the thought life and often practice shifting from feeling words to thinking and beliefs.
  • Psycho-Education   This means that as a counselor, I spend a lot of time educating my clients.  I educate clients on how to learn about themselves. How to help themselves understand thought, emotional and behavior and how to change that for themselves so that they can reduce symptoms and increase healthy coping life styles.

Christian Counseling:
In addition to the traditional therapy models that I work with, I am happy to work with Christian Clients.  My role is to help you work through problems that bring you in to the counseling room based on biblical wisdom. Together, we explore thought and behavior that does not line up with your faith and attempt to re-orient you toward your relationship with God in order to get psychologically, relationally and emotionally well. Further exploration includes accountability to growing your relationship with Christ, exploration of your support system, Christian community and ministry.   I have found that Christians who are looking to address mental health and relational problems benefit tremendously from speaking to someone who not only understands, but can hold your inner dialogue up to the doctrine by which you are attempting to live. I may suggest local church support groups, homework, bible studies or books to read as part of the work.
