Residents of the town enjoy some of the best public schools in the United States. The vast majority of the schools in the city are in the Irvine Unified School District. One recent outstanding achievement of the 4 high schools in the district was being granted six year accreditation--the best possible accreditation status. Newsweek has repeatedly named the high schools to the top high schools in the country list. This honor means that the schools are in the top 4% in the U.S. Elementary and middle schools in the city are also excellent. Two alternative elementary schools offer residents the chance to attend year round school. Another distinctive of the district is the well-regarded music program that starts in fourth grade. Mental Health in Irvine
As one of the most livable cities in Orange County, Irvine is home to some of the best schools and housing facilities in America. Residents of Irvine reap the benefits of impressively low crime rates and a variety of physical and mental health facilities. Because Irvine is a planned city, officials have taken great care to ensure that residents feel supported in an environment conducive to both family and individual lifestyles.
Following depression, alcohol and drug abuse is one of the leading causes of mental illness among the nearly 12% of the Irvine population living below the national poverty level.2 Nearly 20% of all adults above the age of 21 develop some degree of dependency on alcohol or drugs. The number of suicide hotlines and crisis services available by telephone has increased substantially in the last few years in order to provide residents with the option of anonymity when seeking help.
The Anaheim Memorial Hospital Safe Place offers 24-hour telephone support at 714-774-145.
For information regarding the several mental health services available, residents can call the Community Service Programs Hotline at 949-831-9110.
Current Initiatives
