My name is Lori Freson, and I’m a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in Southern California. I’ve been working in the mental health field since 1997, and have been a licensed therapist since 2002. I currently work in my own thriving private practice in Encino/Sherman Oaks, where I serve the San Fernando Valley and Los Angeles areas.

Fortunate to be recognized as an expert in my field, my depth of knowledge and experience in family and relationship issues has made me a sought after mental health professional in the media; I’ve been featured in newspapers, magazines, web publications, and television appearances—all the way from the Washington Post to ABC News.

I started my counseling career at Friends of the Family in Van Nuys—one of Southern California’s premier family resource centers. There, I counseled individuals, couples, and families as a therapist trainee and intern, working with many different groups of people all coping with a variety of troubles and issues.

During my time there, I also fulfilled a role in training and supervision within the Montebello Unified School District, running adolescent support groups as well as individual counseling sessions for high school students of diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds facing a wide range of challenges.

In my work as a therapist, I am privileged to be able to help people improve their relationships, their families and their lives. And while I’ve seen and heard the unthinkable, I’ve also helped people heal and overcome just about anything imaginable—with compassion and empathy. And I will help you, too.

I’ve seen young dads become great fathers, teen moms become amazing mothers, and those plagued by domestic violence actually break the cycle. I believe that people are resilient and have strengths beyond even their own wildest dreams.

While I love helping people with any problem, in my private practice today I generally focus on…

·Parenting Support
·Divorce
·Infertility/IVF
·Adoption

By the way, I’m also a mother. If you’re part of this non-anonymous group, you probably know what it means to be a sleep-deprived soccer mom, tutor, chef and taxi driver. Grab a seat, you’re in good company.

In the moments I call my "free time," I can often be found online reading about the latest celebrity breakups (let’s call it work-related research) and wondering why everyone else seems so surprised. I also dream about bottling my son’s energy and selling it to performance athletes.

I was educated at the University of California, Los Angeles, earning my B.A. in 1990. Before beginning my career in mental health, I worked as a talent agent to actors and actresses of all ages—and having survived Hollywood, I now believe I can do anything. In 1998, I went on to obtain my Master of Arts degree from Phillips Graduate Institute in Chatsworth, California.

My experiences—both professional and personal—inspire all of the work I do in my daily practice. I have faith in people’s ability to move on from the past, change themselves and improve their lives…even when things seem hopeless. I can help you regain the hope you need to move on and feel better.
