Here is my story. I started ballet lessons in Minneapolis, Minnesota at age 5 (You do not want to know what year). That lead to a lifelong interest in dance and theater culminating with a BFA from UCLA in Theater Arts in 1963 (Ooops, I gave it away)!
From there, I proceeded to get married and have two children, all the while pursuing my interest in dance. At the time, a new field, called dance therapy was created, and I was fortunate enough to be involved in very early stages of this, and to train with the master's of the field. What does this have to do with marriage and family counseling, you ask? Continue with my tale, and you shall see.
I was able to study with the "greats" of the Human Potential Movement, many of whom you may have heard, Carl Rogers, Virginia Satir, Fritz Perls, being among them. Anyway, to fast forward, in practicing dance therapy, I became interested in the body in psychotherapy, and through many trainings in that field ( I am a HIGHLY trained therapist). I returned to graduate school and got a degree (M.A. and PH.D) in Counseling and Clinical Psychology, so I could work with individuals outside of a psychiatric hospital setting (as dance therapists were only allowed to do).
As I established a private practice in 1976, I became associated with Dr. Jack Rosenberg, DDS. and PH.D. a well-known somatic (body) psychotherapist at that time. We wrote a book published in 1985 titled Body, Self and Soul (see below):
I then became very interested in early developmental issues (based on object relations) because we were accessing pre-verbal experiences through the body. The neuroscience of today has validated all of our theories of early development, but we did not have hard science to back us up at the time.
NOW-to what it means to YOU! Your early pre-verbal experiences totally determine the way you will behave in intimate relationships and the relational patterns you will tend to repeat (with children and spouse). That takes us up to the present.
I have written 3 books and many published articles (see below and my website). I   HAVE SUSTAINED 3 LONG TERM RELATIONSHIPS AND RAISED 6 KIDS AND HAVE 4 GRANDCHILDREN. I HAVE BEEN A LICENSED THERAPIST FOR 35 YEARS AND HAVE TAUGHT GRADUATE STUDENTS IN PSYCHOLOGY AND TRAINED THERAPISTS ALL OVER THE WORLD FOR MANY YEARS.
That is my story.
