Michael Spring, PhD
My career began at Stanford's counseling center in 1960, and I have
been fortunate to have known and worked with so many people over the
years. I am a licensed clinical psychologist with an MA from Stanford
University and a PhD from Adelphi University. My training covers a
broad spectrum of treatment approaches, including psychoanalytic
psychotherapy, family and marital systems, sex therapy, Gestalt
therapy, medical hypnosis, primal therapy, and EMDR.
I especially enjoy couples counseling which is based in my
love for helping people overcome their hurt, disappointment, and upset.
My work is rooted in the daily experience of keeping my own marriage of
35 years alive and growing. Nancy and I have raised four children
together, are blessed with four grandchildren, and through it all are
still in love. Helping people learn the skills to find and sustain
happiness is greatly satisfying
to me.
Nancy Spring, RN, MSN
I began my counseling career as a psychiatric nurse in the graduate
program at Yale University in the late 1960s. After receiving my MSN
degree, I was a professor at the University of Connecticut and UCSF for
ten years. I then began my own therapy practice and have had the joy of
working with couples and individuals for
30 years.
I especially love helping women with their
relationships—husband/significant other, children, stepchildren,
grandchildren, co-workers, parents, and in-laws. My practice reflects
my happy marriage of 35 years, our four children, and four
grandchildren. As a nurse, I pay close attention to the mind-body
connection and have considerable success helping clients with anxiety,
depression, and stress symptoms. My practice draws on a wide range of
teachings: Freud, Jung, Buber, Erickson, Sullivan, and Maslow. I use
many approaches to therapy, including family and couples systems
theory, group dynamics, Gestalt therapy, EMDR, guided imagery, and
meditation.
