Life can be very hard and painful at times. My goal is to offer a compassionate safe place to help you get through difficult stages of your life, and learn different ways of "being" in the world that will create a more joyful experience.

People often come to therapy for the following reasons:
* Feeling sad, low energy, and loss of interest in activities.
* Feeling overwhelmed, and stressed.
* Negative thoughts and feelings about themselves.
* Relationships are often in turmoil.
* Lack of purpose or direction.
* Family struggles and conflict.

I approach counselling with genuine caring, and respect. I view difficulties in life as challenges that we can learn and grow from. My approach to counselling is grounded in in my faith that people are intrinsically worthy, are able to make sound decisions, have successful relationships, and create the life they want.
I believe that people, often through a series of life events, have lost faith in themselves which tends to lead to unhappiness and conflict. I focus on peoples' strengths, as people often loose sight of their gifts.
I integrate a variety of treatment methods into therapy including cognitive behavior, humanistic, positive psychology, EMDR and somatic experiencing. I encourage people to examine their own behavior and beliefs so they can develop more loving and fulfilling relationships.
I believe we need to grieve and mourn our losses, eventually the darkness will be lifted, and we can again see the blessings in our life. Crisis can be viewed as learning opportunities for growth, and can lead to a happier more fulfilling life.

I have been married for 30 years and have two adult children. I see clients in Edmonton and do phone consultations and online sessions with clients outside of Edmonton.
If you would like to book an appointment please call 780-482-1847 or email at help@nancyhurst.ca. The fee is $200.00 per hour, which is less than recommended by the Psychology Association of Alberta, to make counselling more affordable to you.  It is important, when searching for a counsellor, that you consider the counsellors credentials and experience.  I am a highly qualified psychologist with extensive experience and find that most of my clients make considerable changes in a short period of time.
