About Dr. Pishva
I am a psychologist (supervised practice), with a Doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology. I have a passion for helping children, adolescents, and their families. I completed my Bachelor’s Degree at Concordia University in Montreal, and my Master’s and PhD at Queen’s University in clinical psychology. I am currently undergoing the registration process with the College of Psychologists of Ontario.
I have a particular interest in the assessment and treatment of trauma-related and anxiety disorders, and have sought specific training and experience in this area. I am formally trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for trauma, anxiety disorders, and depression, as well as Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP - Level 1) for the treatment of trauma/attachment related disorders. All of the treatment modalities I use are collaborative, focused on the client’s needs, and are founded on clinical research.

Areas of practice
My goal is to offer a collaborative and kind therapeutic environment to support children, adolescents, and their families. Especially when working with children, I strongly believe in a collaborative and systemic approach to assessment and treatment, and the crucial role parents play in their child's well-being.
I offer individual counseling for children and adolescents with:
- Anxiety and worry
- Depression
- Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
- Trauma (abuse, neglect)
- Adjustment to major life events or loss (e.g., grief, divorce, separation counselling)
In addition to therapy, I offer psychological and psychoeducational assessments under the supervision Dr. Carolyn Houlding, Clinical Psychologist registered with the College of Psychologists of Ontario. I utilize valid and reliable assessment tools to understand a young person’s thinking and reasoning skills, cognitive ability, behaviors, personality, emotional state, and social/interpersonal functioning.
I offer comprehensive psychological assessments for:
- Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
- Attachment and trauma-related disorders
- Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)
- Learning disabilities
- Intellectual disability and developmental disorders
- Depression
- Anxiety Disorders
- Behaviour problems (e.g., Conduct disorder, Oppositional defiant disorder)
I offer all clinical services in English and French.
Philosophy and Approach
I utilize a variety of therapeutic methods to understand children and adolescents’ difficulties, help them overcome challenges, change problematic behaviors, and increase well-being. I am committed to providing research-informed services in the treatment of mental health disorders and utilize methods that have been shown to be effective.
My primary orientation is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), which is a type of talk therapy. It is a time-limited treatment that takes an active and practical approach to psychological problems. The premise of CBT is to change ways of thinking and behavior that underlie a person's distress. For example, children who are anxious often have thoughts such as “I can’t handle this” or “something bad will happen”. Children who are sad or depressed may have thoughts like “I can’t do anything right” or “I am not worth it”. CBT teaches children to examine these thoughts and to challenge them, helping children take control of their emotions!
I look forward to meeting with you,
Dr. Rana Pishva
