Mental Health in Everett

The Snohomish County Chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness provides Everett residents who care for a mentally ill loved one with a free, monthly support group. These peer support groups give family members a chance to discuss the challenges they face, as well as learn from what others in a similar situation have done to make life easier and more comfortable for their loved one. Meetings are facilitated by a trained NAMI member. Call 206-790-0162 to obtain more information.2

Preventing Suicide is the primary purpose of Forefront, an organization overseen collaboratively by various departments at the University of Washington. Current Education

The Everett Public Schools offers a continuum of programs and services aimed at providing an excellent education for students of all ability levels. The Special Services Department ensures the needs of special education students are met. To be eligible for services, students must be referred and evaluated by the evaluation team. Once a child has been deemed to have a disability, an Individual Education Plan is developed to meet the needs of that student.4 Additionally, the district provides a Highly Capable Program for elementary aged students. The program gives intellectually gifted children additional and advanced learning opportunities in a self-contained classroom setting. Eligibility requirements include a teacher nomination, student testing scores and cognitive testing. For further information, call 425-385-4033.5
