ELAINE K. SHEPHERDSON, MA, LMHC

PROFESSIONAL: Elaine is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in the state of Florida; specializing in the treatment of anxiety and depression, women's issues, life changes/transitions, parenting, relationships with teens, anger management, blended families, and family of origin issues. Elaine has a genuine love for children and a special interest in helping families become healthier, stronger, and more successful.

Elaine began her career as an Elementary School Counselor, spending the majority of her time conducting student group therapy to address issues of grief and loss, divorce of parents, blended family adjustments, social skills training, behavioral problems, screening for Gifted and assessing for learning disabilities.

Her approach to therapy is solution oriented. By using a brief therapy model designed to get to the heart of the issue, you are able to resolve the underlying causes of emotional pain. She aims to empower her clients by working together to develop an individualized treatment plan that allows for healing and personal growth. The process of therapy allows an individual a safe, caring and nonjudgmental environment in which to explore the wounds that are at the core of what is causing them emotional pain. In addition, creating new patterns of positive self talk will expose and challenge old beliefs that have been holding one back. Healthier thoughts can lead to new behaviors that promote change.

PERSONAL: She has been married to her husband for the last 22 years. Together they have raised 4 children; one son and three daughters, who have brought them much joy. She has spent over a decade as a stay-at-home mother which has given her great insight into the struggles and challenges of mothering.

As a college student she was a sprinter for the BYU track team and a member of the Conference Championship team for 3 consecutive years. She also had the privilege to spend time abroad between her junior and Senior year by doing humanitarian service in the Central American countries of Costa Rica and Panama.
