I am a Registered Marriage and Family Therapist with over 10 years of clinical experience with a variety of issues such as depression, anxiety, relational difficulties, anger, self-esteem, stress and trauma. I provide my clients with a safe place and a compassionate ear for them to explore and reflect on important areas of their lives that may have been difficult for them to do on their own. In a supportive environment, clients come to understand some of the unhelpful patterns that they are involved in, and are empowered to take different steps that are in line with their needs and desires. I support clients as they get through difficult times of their lives and work towards finding wholeness and gaining fulfillment.
With couples, I use similar principles to help each partner understand their roles in perpetuating unhealthy patterns. Using principles of Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy, I work to facilitate alternative interactions that help couples connect more deeply, yielding a safer and more fulfilling relationship. I
I work in a client-centered, experiential and systemic manner, integrating principles from Emotion Focused Therapy for individuals and couples, Family Systems Theory, Attachment Theory, Narrative Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Solution Focused Therapy in my work with clients. I work collaboratively with my clients to use interventions that are appropriate for the kind of work requested.
Prior to going into full-time practice, I have worked in medical, educational and non-profit settings with approaches that include Emotion Focused Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy and Narrative Therapy. I am open to working with people of all religious / non-religious orientations, and interested in helping fellow Christians integrate aspects of their faith into the work as well if they so desire.
When I am not working in my office, I am spending much of my time with my loving wife and wonderful young children. I am also an avid sports fan and enjoy skiing, cycling and golf when life permits.
I am specifically interested in working with people who want help with:
- couples therapy
I also have experience in working with people with
- teen issues
- trauma & domestic violence
Frequently Asked Questions
What should I know about your approach to therapy?
As much as I know that people want to reach their goals in as short of a time frame as possible, I have also found that attempts at shortcuts often lead to longer-term frustration. As such, my preference is to work thoroughly with clients at a pace that is comfortable for them to maximize their long-term benefit from their time with me.
I have been primarily influenced by ideas found in Emotion-Focused Therapy, Attachment Theory, Family Systems Theories, Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy, and Solution-Focused Therapy. The exact approach that I use will be tailored to your needs and circumstances, and will be discussed with you during our initial sessions.
