What's a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) you ask? LMFTs take a systems approach when working with an issue or a problem. Our philosophy is that no one person is the identified patient; rather the system, or a group of people they come from, is treated as the patient. It is the system that needs to be altered or taught how to communicate differently, or in a healthier manner. A common miscommunication for LMFTs is they don't work with individuals. However, individuals are part of the family system, as they are also part of school systems, church systems, industries, or any group of people who gather. When one part of the system changes, the whole system changes. LMFTs are unique in their training.

Ever feel like people will think you are crazy if you go to therapy? Our profession has received a bad reputation, we only work with "the crazy people." Did you know that we also work with healthy people who might want to change some aspect of their life? Things like anxiety, stress, struggles with weight, divorce, co-parenting, family and/or marital issues, grief, loss, life changes, and many more. These things don't sound crazy to me! They Sound Human! Sometimes even the smallest issue can feel like a mountain. Therapy can help! I think it would be fair to say most people have families, biological or not, that in itself creates issues for people and therapy is a great place to go to figure out what is your problem and what are the problems you have inherited?
There are only five schools in Connecticut that are accredited by the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists (AAMFT). My Masters Degree was completed at Southern Connecticut State University, in New Haven and my training was at Naugatuck Youth and Family Services, in Naugatuck, working with individuals, families, couples, and groups. I am certified in Gestalt therapy and have received training in parenting skills and family constellation work. In addition, I have training in play therapy, specifically, sand tray therapy. I try to use many different tools to work with clients. We all tend to think to much and can't seem to get out of our own heads. These different tools help me understand the issues, from outside the box.
I offer a Women's Group in Monroe! It is a fabulous group that supports women through many different topics and issues, meeting the need of the group. We meet Bi-weekly. The cost is $50/session.

I served two years on the Board of Directors for the Connecticut Association of Marriage and Family Therapy (CTAMFT). Through the CTAMFT, I participate in the Professional Development Committee and the Conference Committee, which both work toward educating and developing our profession. I co-chaired the 2011 CTAMFT annual conference, which featured Bill O'Hanlon, LMFT as the keynote speaker!

I am currently accepting new clients and referrals. My fee is $100/session however, this is open to negotiation depending on what works for you or your family. I work within a 50 minute hour for each session, unless specified. For example, families may need more than an hour depending on number of members. I am currently accepting Husky/Medicaid insurance. I am also in the process of becoming an In-Network Provider with Anthem BCBS. I am primarily Out-of-Network with insurance companies. I can submit the insurance paperwork for you to alliveate that headache! Please check with your insurance company prior to your first visit to see if out of network is an option in your plan. No guarantee of payment is promised.

If you are not sure you can afford the fee, please call me at (203) 376-2088 or email me at and we can discuss your options. If you still feel this is not affordable, I can work toward helping you locate a low-cost alternative.
