About Suzette Vaughan:
My therapeutic journey of self-healing began in 1999.  In my early twenties I was began being affected by severe anxiety and debilitating panic attacks.  I ended up having to drop out of college, quit working, stop driving, and was no longer able to socialize with others.  I lost my friends, my connection to the outside world, and most importantly I lost myself. I spent many years as a client in what I now know was traditional behavioral therapy and I was prescribed a variety of medications.  Not only did it not help me, I became worse and felt like a failure because I was not able to get better.
Finally, I discovered my own way out and took back my life.  I returned to college and earned a Bachelor's degree in English Literature and a Master's degree in Library Science.  While I enjoyed helping others as a Librarian, I kept meeting other people who were being affected by anxiety and fear with similar stories to mine.  They were expressing frustration and hopelessness and felt their therapists did not understand their relationship with anxiety and its scary and obsessive thoughts, feelings, and bodily sensations.  They were being labeled as difficult clients and "anxious people" who would need to spend their lives managing their anxiety and being on medication.  I decided to return to graduate college to become a therapist so I could help others affected by anxiety and fear, and share the therapeutic tools I learned to leave a life of constant worry and fear behind.
I specialize in treating Anxiety Disorders including:
Generalized Anxiety Disorder
Social Anxiety Disorder
Panic Disorder and Panic Attacks
Separation Anxiety Disorder
Specific Phobias
I also work with Stress and Life Transitions, Adjustment Disorder, and Couples in Crises
Other populations I work with are performers, writers, and artists who feel that anxiety is causing creative blocks and self-doubt.
Therapeutic Approach:
My approach as a therapist is collaborative, non-judgemental, and strengths-based.  I work with tweens, teens, and adults in both individual and group therapy.  I draw upon a combination of both Western Therapies and Eastern Approaches including:
Self-Relations Psychology
Narrative and Solution-Focused Therapies
Generative Mindbody Attunement
Attachment Theory
Acceptance Commitment Therapy
Mindfulness Practices
Emotionally-Focused Couples Therapy
I am very passionate about neuropsychology and mind/body integration and help clients create new neural pathways, bringing forth new possibilities and preferred stories.
Groups are especially helpful for people affected by anxiety; offering a safe experience, a shared commonality and a sense of belonging.   I currently offer two ongoing groups for adults:
ACT on Anxiety:
A therapeutic group for adults affected by high anxiety, panic attacks, and ongoing worry.
Social Anxiety for Adults Group:
A group for adults struggling with social fears and anxieties that are robbing them of their life's hopes and dreams, and preferred careers and relationships.
*I also offer a group for tweens and teens affected by social anxiety beginning in the Fall.
My personal motto is:  manage your life not your anxiety
You are not alone on this journey and its time for you or your child to stop being bullied by fear and anxiety.
